YL: A show is never finished – it
continually evolves from day to day, from
city to city, from culture to culture.
A comedy show, an intelligent improvisa-
tion, an emotive dance – how would these
events feel to viewers when performed by
an actor embodying an ungendered amor-
phous shape, an industrial robotic arm,
a 50-m-wide screen?

Say someone has just visited The Other
Actor. How would they describe what they
saw to a friend who wasn’t there? JY: We
envision The Other Actor not as a specific

You’re particularly interested in the inter-
section of physical and digital shows...
YUXI LIU: Physical shows are becoming
more physical, while digital shows are
forging new frontiers of experience in art,
music and entertainment. As both sides
of the equation develop, we may see the
spectrum of shows start to broaden and
fractionalize. We’re attracted to the point
at which physical and digital converge.
Within that liminal space lies the potential
for an event that is generative, reactive and
completely exclusive.

Can you tell us about your concept, The
