director of child care licens-
ing and more than five years
in the computer industry. He
served on the boards of the
Wedgwood Christian
Services youth home and of
Cutlerville Christian School,
and also was director of spe-
cial initiatives for Habitat for
Humanity of Michigan.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
Thursday ordered U.S. and
Michigan flags within the
State Capitol Complex to be
lowered to half-staff Friday,
to honor Jansen’s life and
service. The flag honors
coincided with his celebra-
tion of life.
“Our state mourns loss of
former State Sen. Mark
Jansen,” Whitmer said in a
prepared statement. “He was
someone who was deeply
respected across the aisle. He
will be remembered for his
many years of dedicated ser-
vice to the people of Michigan
in the legislature and in the
Michigan Department of
Licensing and Regulatory
Affairs. My deepest condo-
lences go out to his family

during this difficult time.”
Jansen is survived by his
wife of 38 years, LeAnne;
children, Jason and Sarah
Noteboom, Bradley and
Emily Jansen, Anna Jansen
and Nathan Jansen; grand-
children, Adilyn Noteboom,
Easton Noteboom, Theodore
Jansen and Cornelius Jansen;
parents, Charlie and Cornelia
Jansen; mother-in-law,
Marilyn Zuiderveen; sib-
lings, Allen and Marcia
Jansen, Russell and Jill
Jansen, Sharon and Mike
Gallup, and Susan and Pete
VanderWeide, and plenty of
