Emoji fonts Another example of OpenType-SVG fonts are emoji fonts, since OpenType-
SVG allows vector graphics to be used as font characters. The Photoshop font family menu
indicates color and emoji fonts with an OpenType SVG icon ( ).
Variable fonts When you want a certain font weight but Regular is too thin and Bold is too
thick, you can use a Variable Font that lets you customize attributes such as weight, width,
and slant in the Properties panel. The Photoshop font family menu indicates variable fonts
with an OpenType VAR icon ( ).
Note that some OpenType fonts have more options than others.
Tip
Want to know if a character has OpenType alternates? Just select it. If a thick underline
appears under a selected character, moving the pointer over that character reveals the
alternate glyphs available for that character in the font applied to it. You can select from
those glyphs just as you can in the Glyphs panel, or you can click a triangle to open the
Glyphs panel.
Adding a rounded rectangle
You’re almost done with the text for the magazine cover. All that remains is to add the volume
number in the upper right corner. First, you’ll create a rectangle with rounded corners to serve as
a background for the volume number.
