Adobe Illustrator CC Classroom in a Book (2019 Release), First Edition

(singke) #1
All of the shapes with the global swatch applied are updated, even if they weren’t selected (the
circle).

Editing a nonglobal swatch

The default color swatches that come with each Illustrator document are not saved as global
swatches by default. As a result, when you edit one of those color swatches, the artwork that uses
the color will update only if that artwork is selected. Next, you’ll apply and edit a swatch that
was not saved as a global swatch.

  1. With the Selection tool ( ) selected, click to select the guitar shape that you first applied the
    orange fill color to.

  2. Click the Fill box ( ) in the Properties panel and you will see that the swatch named
“Orange” is applied to the fill. This was the first color you applied to content at the beginning
    of this lesson.
