your
body,
redefined
AS FAR AS TRIGGER WORDS GO, body is a biggie. The terms
it’s often paired with—think positivity or the dreaded bikini—
tend to spark strong feelings, both good and bad.
Instead, let’s focus on body in its own right. What comes to
mind? Maybe it’s the anatomical aspects—organs, bones, mus-
cles, and joints. Or simply the image of yours as it moves and nav-
igates through space. The point is, by untethering any judgments
attached to the word, you can redefi ne what your body means to
you—and harness its full potential.
To help you do that, we’ve dedicated this issue to the body.
We’re introducing new sections and features that support your
full-body health and wellness journey, so you can be the best
version of yourself that you want to be.
On page 17, we’re debuting The Body Shop, an exactingly
curated section featuring next-level wellness products and
services. Scan your phone’s camera over our code, and you’ll be
directed to Shape’s Amazon page for easy, fast access to buy some-
thing you love. Next up is the Shape Studio (page 47), part of our
expanded active-living section, Be Strong + Well. This is an
immersive workout that starts in the magazine with a ton of smart,
useful info related to the routine; scan our code to watch the exer-
cise demonstrated by one of the pros who developed it. You’ll fi nd
a similar scenario in a new feature called 1 Perfect Move (page
54). Here, one of our experts—this issue it’s our contributing fi t-
ness director, Jen Widerstrom—will create an entirely new move
just for Shape readers. You can scan and see Jen demo it herself.
Then there’s Body Politics (page 58), a new column that covers
all the little negotiations and communications that take place in
your body every day. This month we discuss the biomechanics
of exercising with large breasts—a tricky issue for many women.
We hope these additions provide the perfect blend of motiva-
tion, direction, explanation, and demonstration to guide you to
