restaurant at 7 PM. You show up at the restaurant at 6:57 and he's
nowhere to be found. In fact, he doesn’t show up un l 718 and did
not take a moment to let you know he was running late, and when
he arrives, he makes no men on of the fact that he's late.
So, how do you feel given this situa on? He shows up almost 20
minutes late and doesn’t’ take the me to text you and let you
know. Are you upset or frustrated? Do you say something to him?
Do you compromise your standards here because you really like
him and you’re afraid to cause any fric on. If you are keeping your
standards and expecta ons high, you are going to let him know
that your me is valuable, and next me you’re going to be late
you would appreciate a text so you can make other plans. And if
he does the same thing again, you’ll leave him.
Look, I know it can be difficult to keep your standards high when
you really like a person. It’s like everything goes out the window,
right? But when you compromise your standards, you are always
going to get less that you need and less than you deserve. You are
se ng the bar low, you're se ng the parameters low, and you’re
le ng him know it’s ok to treat you that way.
And even worse, compromising your values also increases the
possibility of entering into unhealthy rela onships or situa ons.
