GYN TRIAD
Ovarian Torsion
Management. Untwist the ovary (with laparoscopy or laparotomy) and observe
the ovary for a few minutes in the operating room to ensure revitalization. If
revitalization occurs, an ovarian cystectomy can be performed with preservation
of the ovary. If the ovary is necrotic, a unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is
performed.
Patients should have routine examination 4 weeks post-operation and then
yearly. The pathology report should be checked carefully to confirm it is benign;
if that is the case, go to routine follow-up.
