Children's Mercy Hospital Prepped & Ready

(agerstner) #1

Length of presentation

  • Significant number of people mentioned there was a lot
of information to cover in a short time or that the
    presentation went too quickly.

  • Would like to have a presentation broken up into
segments, made longer and include more info on issues
influencing mental health and how to talk to their kids.

A: “This should be a half day conference. Much useful
information but not enough time to process all information
provided secondary to limits of time given to presenter.”

Broader need

  • Significant numbers of respondents indicated this should
be required and ongoing to either offer a
    reminder/refresher or ongoing education.

  • They requested a format appropriate for their children
(elementary, middle, high school and college aged),
school counselors, and educators, mentioning it should
be annually mandatory or offered at the schools.

  • Some mentioned they would like to be reminded more
often, thus the request for ongoing or repeated
    presentations.

A: “Would love to make this a regular (twice/school year)
presentation.”

A: “This presentation could EASILY be several hours to go
over each of these items in more depth. The speaker was
excellent. I wish she could contact our public high school
counseling department & do the same presentation for staff
& parents there.”

Materials or info for sharing

  • Significant number of requests for videos, slides,
handouts, powerpoint or other content to keep for
themselves to revisit the information, share with a
spouse partner or child who was not able to attend, or
share with other parents or those who may be interested
    in learning about the information.

A: “I would love to have a summary of this that I could print
out and review. It’s a lot of really good information and I
have to see things multiple times and review it in writing to
take it in. Some notes with the slides would be amazing.”

A: “It would be nice to have a handout with a list of
resources for each of the topics covered tonight (like if we
were interested in learning more about them or learning
how else to talk to our children). I know there were some on
the slides, and I tried to get most of them, but I don’t think I
did. It was just so much great information.”

Changed behavior: gun/med storage and/or
knowledge/behavior

  • Great percentage indicated a changed behavior or
understanding about who is affected (friends coming
into the home) and a need to address med safety or gun
    storage.

A: “Very valuable information. I wasn’t even aware of all of
the guns in my home and my husband had forgotten about
an unlocked gun he had in the house. We also had not
considered the dangers of having OTC medications so
available for our teen. We went home and reduced access
immediately. Thank you!”
