Yoga Girl

He replied, “Why don’t you come work for us? is might sound
absolutely crazy and out of the blue, but so far we have only hired people
that resonate with our hearts. We haven’t seen a single résumé—we only
want to work with people who have good energy and who are on the same
path. Would you like to come onboard? We could really use someone to
do assistant work for us, keep the team healthy, and handle travel and
logistics.”
“Are you kidding?” I asked. “No!” he said. Well . . . okay, then!
I walked into the restaurant office, took my apron off, and very
dramatically threw it on the floor (I’d seen people do this in movies and it
was something I always wanted to do) in front of the owner. “I quit!” I
said. And I walked out. Two days later I was on a plane to Orange
County, planning a meeting with executives to discuss million-dollar
investments. I’m not kidding. is all happened, exactly the way I’m
telling you. ey gave me a big salary (highest I’d ever had before), I got
to keep the team healthy, plan meals, and do general personal assistant
work. It was also around this time that I started teaching yoga; I didn’t
have any formal yoga education, but I used my intuition and the
knowledge I’d gathered from my own practice to teach gentle classes to
the team in the mornings. It was wonderful!
Taking my first steps toward teaching yoga sparked something within
me that I couldn’t put my finger on, but it felt very, very important. It was
years before I would make yoga my career, and I didn’t know at the time
how important these first classes would be. I’d fly back and forth between
Costa Rica and California and Oregon with the company, and all of a
sudden my life was very different. All I had to do was ask for it!
I remember sitting in a Porsche driving down the Pacific Coast
Highway close to San Diego during the first trip I took with them,
enjoying the breeze and the sunshine, and I realized: One week ago I
couldn’t pay my electricity bill and didn’t have enough money to buy
proper dog food. Now I’m here. is is how easy it is. If I want to change
