Yoga Girl

(Joyce) #1

When I became a teenager, my life changed again. is time it wasn’t
my parents splitting up, but my mom and her new husband, as well as my
dad and his new wife. I was older this time around and had small sisters to
care for, and when divorce struck our family again, it angered me. What is
wrong with my parents? I thought. ere were little kids to care for! I took
it upon myself to be responsible for their well-being. Of course I failed. I
couldn’t be a mom and a dad and a big sister all at once—and no one had
even asked me to! I felt it was my job to ensure that everyone was happy
and to make sure my mom was okay. When the pressure of it all became
too much, I started turning away from my family and toward other things.
Since I couldn’t manage the chaos I felt within and the chaos at home, I
started creating more of it wherever I went.
