at the Federal University of Tocantins. The main results of the research
demonstrate that the historical events along the transformations that
occurred in Jalapão, allowed to identify three disturbances that affected
the ecological region, they are: the creation of conservation units,
the exploration through the tourist activity and the agribusiness. The
pressure caused by the market, both from exploration through tourism,
which became more acute with the creation of conservation units by
the government, and from agribusiness, maintained the position of the
jalapoeiro on the fringe of this development process. However, considering
the population’s livelihoods, the study contributes to thinking about
development in regions where the social organization of local actors
becomes an alternative for facing the problems that affect ecological
regions and, therefore, can contribute to the formulation of policies that
strengthen community resilience.
