“ramulis tereticompressiusculi; foliis ellipticis
aut obovatis, antice rotundatis, basi acutiuscu-
lis, coriaceis, integerrimis aut margine albicante
subrepando-crenulatis; paniculis bracteolatis
axillaribus quam folia brevioribus; dentibus
calycis obtusis, petalis obovato-ellipticis;
capsulis obovato-globosis breviter apiculatis
monodispermis valvulis 2 coriaceis. – Arbor
12-20-pedalis, saepe a basi ad apicem ramos
densos multiramulosos emittens, cortice
cinereo-fuscescente laevigato, in ramulis e
fusco et viridi vario. Folia alterna Celastri,
breviter petiolata, elliptica aut obovato-elliptica,
margine albicante, duriuscula, evenia, glaberri-
ma. Flores in paniculis racemos simulantibus
erectis solitariis aut nonnullis in quavis ala
congestis, bracteolis minutis acutis adspersis,
pedicellis 1-1 ½ lin. longis fi liformibus et rhachi
unguiculari-pollicari subangulata glabris. Calyx
minutus, orbicularis, subquinqueangulatus,
persistens, inferus, dentibus quinque obtusis
parvulis, in centro tectus disco plano decem-
sulcato, sulcis subtilibus. Corolla fl avescens,
minuta, in ambitu disci adnata, petalis obovatis,
obtusis patentibus. Stamina 5, nonnunquam 3,
4, 6, petalis alternantia, parva. Filamenta subu-
lata. Antherae ovatae, erecta, bilocularis, loculis
effoetis plano-expansis. Pollen minimum,
globosum. Ovarium disco immersum, bilocula-
re, ovulis erectis. Stylus brevis, crassus, teres.
Stigma depresso-planum. Capsula obovato-
-globosa sulco verticali, breviter stylo apiculata,
loculicido-bivalvis, fere ad basin usque, valvulis
coriaceis....”
