the news outlet that, seemingly, “Jony was gone
but reluctant to hand over the reins.”


The Wall Street Journal article has since been
lambasted by Tim Cook – who, emailing NBC
News reporter Dylan Byrers, called the report
“absurd”. Cook insisted: “A lot of the reporting, and
certainly the conclusions, just don’t match with
reality”, adding: “It distorts relationships, decisions
and events to the point that we just don’t
recognize the company it claims to describe.”


Nonetheless, the Journal has stood by its
report. Furthermore, Cook’s riposte has been
met with some suspicion, as seen among a
panel of commentators televised by CNBC.
Someone else taking issue with Cook’s response
has been – as also filmed by CNBC – Walter
Isaacson, the author of Steve Jobs’ popular
authorized biography.


Isaacson observed that Cook “did not deny any
specific thing in that article. He did not say you’re
wrong about that meeting or you’re wrong
about that product or you’re wrong about Jony
Ive not doing this or you’re wrong about Jony Ive
not being here.”


He also noted that the response did not include
any words from Ive himself. Referring to the
original Wall Street Journal article, he remarked
that it “has what our friend Dr. Kissinger would
say is the ‘odious smell of truth’, paragraph
after paragraph.”
