RICH MESOPHYTIC FOREST

This diverse mixed forest is home to some of New York City‟s most stunning plant communities.

The rich, seasonally-moist, well-drained soils are favorable to spring ephemerals and the

culturally significant sugar maple (Acer saccharum). The acidic qualities of the soils are

maintained by the variety of occurring oak species.

Examples Include: Van Cortlandt (BX), Inwood Hill (MN), Cunningham (QU), Bloodroot Valley (SI).
