IMbAbURA
Esta maravillosa provincia nace en la Hoya del río Chota y forma
parte de dos cordilleras principales de los Andes. Con una
ubicación estratégica, se encuentra a 60 kilómetros de la capital de
la república (Quito) y a 100 kilómetros de la frontera colombiana.Además, es un eje comunicador entre la Costa y la Amazonía.
Imbabura se encuentra rodeada de montañas sagradas con
mágicas leyendas. El majestuoso volcán “Taita Imbabura”, del cual
toma su nombre esta provincia fructífera, Mama Cotacachi y el
Cerro Yanahurco son sitios que invitan al turista a visitarlos. Intag,
Salinas, Chota y Lita son valles hermosos y fértiles, bañados por
correntosos ríos.Mundialmente conocidas son sus lagunas: Yahuarcocha, Cuicocha,
San Pablo, Puruhanta, Mojanda y Piñan en donde los turistas
pueden practicar sky, motociclismo acuático o kayak. Las reservas
ecológicas de Cayambe-Coca y Cotacachi-Cayapas, la Cascada
de Peguche son sitios emblemáticos de la zona, llenos de flora y
fauna.En esta provincia también se encuentra Otavalo y su mundialmente
famoso mercado de artesanías indígenas que ha sido la sede de
la fabricación textil en el Ecuador desde tiempos precoloniales.
El pueblo se transformó en un importante centro de comercio
en el gobierno de los Incas, durante el siglo XV. Su feria artesanal
en donde hábiles manos dan forma a textiles, cerámica, madera,
cabuya y sombreros son varios de los productos que en ella se
ofertan.San Miguel de Ibarra, la “Ciudad Blanca” es la capital de esta
provincia y es reconocida por la alta calidad de sus artesanías en
madera, cuero y hierro, por su delicioso “arrope” de mora y por los
helados de paila. La gastronomía también es muy variada y entre
las especialidades culinarias que el turista puede degustar están
las deliciosas fritadas, la carne colorada y el cuy.This wonderful province is born in the basin of the Chota River and it is

with indigenous handcrafts, this has been the place for textile
manufacturing in Ecuador ever since the beginning of pre-colonial
times. The people turned themselves into an important trading
center during Inca ruling throughout the 15th century. The craft
fair is where their skilled hands shape up textiles, pottery, ceramics,

of this province and it is well known for its high quality of wooden,
leather and iron crafts; its delicious sweets make of blackberry and

and among the culinary specialties, the tourist can enjoy delicious
