4 Lodge at Glendorn Lodge^ $$$
(%800-843-8568; http://www.glendorn.com; 1000
Glendorn Dr; r from $450) It’s no surprise
that this 1200-acre estate is easily the most
luxurious accommodation in the region; after
all, it was built as the family retreat for the
scions of Clayton Glenville Dorn who made a
fortune during the late 18th century oil boom.
There’s a ‘big house’ and a dozen cabins done
up in log cabin, rustic panache with more than
50 fireplaces throughout the property. Outdoor
activities like snowmobiling, skeet shooting and
fishing are offered.

Coudersport

5 Fezz’s Diner Diner^ $
(Mill Creek Plaza, Rte 6; mains $6; h6am-3pm
Mon-Wed, to 9pm Thu-Sat, 8am-3pm Sun)
This proudly retro diner doesn’t seem to have
changed much since it was shipped lock, stock
and barrel from Bethlehem, PA in the mid-
1950s. Expect good burgers, large portions and
at times, old-school – ie delayed and less than
solicitous – service.

Cherry Springs State Park 5

4 Cherry Springs State Park
Campsite Camping $

(%in Galeton 814-435-5010; PA Rte 44, Cherry
Springs State Park; tent sites $15; hApr 15–Nov

15) There’s no reason to call it quits when
there’s constellations and stars still overhead.
Pitch a tent on this primitive site – no electricity,
no showers, vault toilets, no pets and no
reservations. It’s a small area nestled between
the two stargazing fields. The campsite at
nearby Lyman Run State Park has hot showers
and flush toilets.

Galeton 6

4 Susquehannock Lodge Inn $
(%814-435-2163; http://www.susquehannock-lodge.
com; 5039 Rte 6, Ulysses; r with breakfast $75;
aW) A homey and comfortable place halfway
between Coudersport and Galeton and 20 miles
from Cherry Springs State Park. The owners,
a couple who relocated from Philadelphia
decades ago, are happy to help sort out
activities in the area.

Wellsboro

4 Penn Wells Hotel & Lodge Hotel $$
(%800-545-2446; http://www.pennwells.com; 62 Main
St; r incl breakfast from $100; aWs) This
large, historic hotel circa 1869 conveniently
located in ‘downtown’ Wellsboro has a variety of
rooms, some dated. A new, modern annex is just
down the block; it’s more bland although it does
have a small swimming pool and gym.
