“Oh, would you say there’s some tension in our fam-
ily?” the father said sarcastically.
“A little bit,” the therapist smiled.
“So we come back next week?” asked the mother.
“You do,” the therapist said.


At this point you might be thinking, “Wow, I don’t have it
so bad” or “What, he thinks we don’t know what explo-
sions look like?” or “Can we please get on with the show
here? What do I do?” Just remember, the most important
part of what you do is to identify your child’s pathways
and triggers. Otherwise, you can’t possibly know exactly
what to do. But before we get to what you do next,we’ve
got one more avenue to explore: why what you’ve done
already may not have been well matched to the needs of
your child.
