Howto Pour aLiquidChemical. If you have removed thestopperproperly, the
wet edge of the bottle will prevent the liquid from rushingouttoo quickly. Now
place a glass rod across themouthofthe tilted bottle, andpourthe liquid down
the rod. The rod acts to direct the flow.

How to Use an Eye Dropper.Never use an eyedropperto remove a liquid
directly from a bottle.Firstpoura smallquantityofthe liquid into a beaker,
then use the eyedropper.Totransferthe liquid to a test tubecontaininganother
substance,do not plunge the eyedropperinto the chemical in the testtube
unlessinstructedto do so.Instead, hold thedroppernear the top of the test
tubeand let thedropsrun down the inside of the tube.

How to Measure a ·Liquid.Ifyou lookthroughthe sideofa measuringglass
filled with a liquid, you will seethatthe surfaceofthe liquid has adouble
curve. This curve is called themeniscus. In measuring, be sure to use the lowest
partofthe lower .curve. Most liquids have aconcavemeniscus (onethatcurves
downward)but very dense liquids like mercury have a convexmeniscus (one
thatcurvesupward).Inthatcase, use theuppermostpartof theuppercurve for
measuring.
