USING YOUR MICROSCOPE
Before you beginyourventure into the world ofliving things, you will
need oneimportantskill; you will need to know how tooperateyourmicro-
scope quickly and correctly.
No matterhow inexpensive, a compoundmicroscopeusually looks like
the one shown in theillustrationbelow.
ocular obarrelLearnthe importantpartsofthe microscopeand the use ofeach part
before you try to viewsomethingthatis almostor completely invisible toyour
naked eye. Itis a good idea to refer to theillustrationas you readthese
instructions.
Alwayscarryyourmicroscopeuprightbyholdingthearmwith onehand
and supportingits weightunderthebasewithyourotherhand. Set itdown
gently on a firm table topneara window, if possible. Ifthatis notpossible,
use itnearan electric light.
When you are ready tooperateyourmicroscope,align (getintoa straight
line) the low power objective with the tube. When it's aligned,you'llhearit
clickintoplace.
