Materials:Get apairofIamb kidneys at abutchershop orsupermarket.
Ask thebutcherto cut oneofthem inhalfthe long way. Ifyou prefer, you
can do this yourself.
Follow this procedure: First examine theexternalstructure. Then look
closely at theinternalstructureofone of the two halvesofthe divided kidney.
You will observe:Lambkidneys are kidney-beanshaped and darkred.
In the middle area ofeach kidney are small coiled tubulesthatseem to empty
into a funnel-like area. This leads into a tube extending from the inner side
ofeach kidney.
The Iamb kidneys are similar in size and shape to thoseofhumanbeings.
Like Iambs, we have apairofkidneyslocatedat the smallofthe back, one on
each sideofthebackbone.
Bloodcarryingliquid wastes from allpartsofthe body passesthroughthe
kidneys where excesswaterand a largequantityof liquid waste arestrained
outand collected in the small tubules you observed. Fromthese, wastematter
passes into the funnel-like area of each kidneythroughtubes into the storage
bladder.
Thebladderstores liquid wastes, now called urine, until they are eliminated
from the body.
