Microsoft Word - Woodshop 101 Part 1 of 3

(vip2019) #1

The finished drawing of Katie’s art
caddy looked like the picture to the
right. If yours doesn’t look exactly like
this one, don’t worry. As long as you
like the way it looks, that’s all that
matters.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other end
piece.

Step 5
Using clamps to hold the pieces tight to
your workbench cut the design out with
a coping saw on the front and back
pieces.

Hint: When cutting curves with the coping saw
that go into a sharp corner, make a relief cut first.
A relief cut is a cut that’s used so you don’t have to
pull the saw blade back out through the kerf you
just cut. For our piece the relief cut would be cut
across the side and stopping where the two curves
come together. The dashed line on the picture to
the right represents this. So, it doesn’t matter
where you start your cut; whenever you get to the
intersection of the two curves, the piece you just
cutwillfallaway.
