Orphans and Vulnerable Children - CRIN

(Tina Sui) #1

Preparing for Home Visits: Child Development

In this activity, you will:
Review the information discussed in Topic 3 on child development

Facilitator’s notes:

Participants should be attentive to the stages of development of the OVC they will be visiting.
They should keep in mind the Indicators of Developmentand observe whether or not the children
demonstrate these indicators. They should also look at Indicators of Children’s Problemsfrom Activity 3
in Topic 1.

In this activity, participants should read these two handouts and decide how they will use the
indicators listed as an assessment tool to determine whether children are developing well or not.
This will require them to come up with a set of questions to ask, which will help them in their
assessment of the children.

For this activity you will need:
 Flipchart and markers
Handout 1 - Indicators of Developmentand Indicators
of Children’s Problems (from Activity 3, Topic 1)
 Extra sheets of blank paper

To facilitate this activity:

1 Hand out the relevant handout to participants. They should include these handouts in their
home visitor handbooks and be able to use these pages when determining whether children are
developing well or not.
