6.5 Terminal Building:

An airport passenger terminal is a building or complex of buildings that serve as the
interface between aircraft, travelers, and landside transportation elements. These elements
work cohesively to convey passengers to and from their origins and destinations. The
terminal complex is typically divided into three primary components: airside, terminal
building, and landside.

Design Considerations

a- Facility Classification: Origin and Destination Airport Terminals, an O&D airport
terminal primarily serves passengers that start and end their trip at a given airport
(70%-90%), with little to no connecting flights. The main flow of passengers is
between the aircraft and the ground transportation system.

b- The annual number of passenger enplanements affects the gross terminal building
area since they are the presentative passengers who use the different airport
facilities frequently. A percentage of 50 of the total annual passengers (Table 5-19)
is imposed to find out the annual enplaned passengers (Table 6- 6 ).
