10.3 Airfield Signage
Airport sign systems provide visual cues to pilots and vehicle operators that enhance safe
and efficient movement within the airfield. The FAA provides installation methods and
techniques for airport signage through published Advisory Circular AC 150/5340-18G
Standards for Airport Sign System".
10.3.1 Runway Distance Remaining Signs
Runway distance remaining signs are used to provide distance remaining information to
pilots during takeoff and landing operations. Normally, these signs consist of white
numerals on a black background.
- Location
The signs are located along the sides of the runway, and the inscription is a white
numeral on a black background, as shown in Figure 10 - 25 to indicate the runway
distance remaining in increments of 300m.
