5.2.4 Topography

One of the most important factors that affect the selection of the airport site and its degree
of suitability is the topography of the area; due to its high impact on the flight process,
safety (imaginary surfaces), and the presence of obstacles to the flight process. In addition,
the topography of the site greatly affects the construction cost of the airport; due to the
peculiarity of the runways and their need to be somewhat level, taking into consideration
the length of the runway which reaches approximately 4 km, thus, therefore it is not
preferable to have a complex topography that leads to large quantities of cut and fill.

The contour lines for the Ain Al-Auja site and the profile of the East-West cross-section
are shown in Figure 5- 8 , Figure 5- 9 respectively, as well as a 3D aerial image from the
Google Earth Pro program (Figure 5- 10 ) emphasize that the area can be classified as Level
and Rolling, so this location is very suitable for establishing the airport.
