Volume and Pan
You can control the volume of your
instrument tracks by moving this slider
up and down. Twist the knob next to it to
alter the panning of the instrument

Go Solo
Only need to hear vocals
when recording piano?
The Solo tool enables you
to hear one track playing
back from a group of
recorded tracks

Zoom
If you’re making time-specific edits
to your recording, the Zoom tool
will come in handy. It increases or
decreases the viewable size of your
track to show more or less

03 Sound check
Now your mic should be set up, so play your piano! The level bars next to the
track will flash green; if they glow red at the edge, turn your levels down using
the track volume slider.


04 Hit Record
If you’re happy with how your piano is sounding, this is your big moment! It’s
your chance to commit your work to ‘tape’. Click the Record button and play
away. Hit the space bar when you’ve finished playing.

Top tip
Play it safe
Recording your piano as cleanly
as possible is recommended as
GarageBand has lots of eff
that you can play around with ects
and add after you’ve fi
nished
recording. If there is any
interference, your eff ect
will be applied
to that too!

Choose your weapon
Use this menu to select your tone from
GarageBand’s vast library of built-in
sounds. When recording piano, try
some of the clean guitar sounds
