If it needs repair

Who you gonna call?

Check your jewellery every couple of months to make sure it's in
good condition. If you need to have a piece repaired, or a pearl
necklace restrung, here are some things to be aware of.

If it needs repair

All jewellery outlets will take in repairs pretty much. The large
chains probably won't do repairs on-site but will farm out repairs
to a jobbing jeweller elsewhere. This means you don't have
chance to talk directly to the person making the repair and when
your jewellery leaves the shop you took it to, you won't know
where it's gone.

Smaller independent jewellers are much more likely to do
repairs on the premises and you can speak directly to the
jeweller concerned. This is important as you're leaving a very
precious item - regardless of how much money it's worth - with a
stranger.

Re-plating

As I mentioned previously, plated jewellery may need to be re-
plated after a while, especially items that get a lot of wear, such
as wedding or engagement rings. White gold is often rhodium
plated to give it a lustrous hi-shine and this will wear o showing
the slighter duller white gold underneath. This is inevitable and a
good jeweller oering repairs will be able to re-plate your
jewellery leaving it looking like new.
