Multinationalcompaniesnowadaysfinditconvenient both to market theirgoods all
over the world and set upproductionfacilitieswherevertheyfinditconvenient.
In my opinion this has hadan adverseeffect onour quality of lifein threemain

areas.

Thefirstareaistheirproducts.Supporters ofglobalizationwouldarguethat
multinationalcompaniesmakehigh-quality goodsavailabletomorepeople.Whilethis
may betruetosomeextent,italsomeansthatwehavelesschoiceof products to
consume. When powerfulmultinationalcompaniesinvadelocalmarkets with their
goods, they oftenare obligedlocalcompanieswithfewerresourcesto go outof
business.Inconsequence,weareobligedto buymultinationalproductswhetherwelike

Thisbringsmetomysecond point.Itissometimessaidthatmultinationalcompanies
and globalisation are making

societiesmoreopen.Thismay betrue. However, I wouldpoint out that as aresult
thehumanraceislosingitscultural diversity. If we consumedvariedproducts,
societieswherever we livewould bemorevaried.Thiscan beseen bythe fact
that we all shop inidenticalmultinationalsupermarketsand buyidenticalproducts
whereverwelive.

Thirdly, defendersofmultinationalcompanies often point out that they provide
jobs.Althoughthisisundoubtedlytrue, it also means that we have become more
valnurable on them, which in turnmakesusmorevulnerabletotheir decisions.
When, forexample, amultinationaldecidestomoveits production facilities to another
country, this has an adverse effect on its workers

wholosetheirjobs.

competition,wecould havethe benefitsofglobalisationwithoutits disadvantages.
