- To Make: Place the honey, sweet almond oil, and ⁄ cup rosewater into
the mixing bowl and beat together with a fork. Add in roughly ⁄ cup of
the cleansing grains and mix them together. Alternate adding more
cleansing grains and rosewater a little at a time. Blend them in between
additions until you’ve added all of the grains. Add enough rosewater to
achieve a spreadable paste. - To Store: This is meant to be made just before use and applied fresh.
Store any leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator and use up
within a day or two. - To Use: For best results, take a quick shower or use after a long soak in
the tub to soften your skin and remove surface dirt and toxins. The
warmth of the shower will open your pores and the moisture on your skin
will provide a conduit for the mask to start working faster and more
effectively. Towel dry and apply to clean damp skin. Start with your
body, massaging the scrub in small circular motions as you go. Start with
the legs and arms, making your way up to the torso, ending at your heart.
Finish by applying a thin layer to your face, avoiding the eye area.
Massage your face with light pressure, using circular motions. Once you
are covered from head to toe, wrap yourself in plastic wrap, a clean sheet,
or a towel and allow this to set for up to 30 minutes on your body and up
to 15 minutes on your face. To rinse, get into a warm shower and rinse
well. You may want to use a washcloth to help remove the mask from
your face. Wet the cloth and apply to your face, leaving it to soak the
mask from your skin, and then gently wipe off. Repeat a few times,
rinsing in between. Use your fingertips and gently massage the wetted
mask from your body. For maximum benefit, do not use soap to wash off
the residual oils. Mist your face with Old-Fashioned Rosewater (see
Chapter 7) to close the pores, and apply a facial moisturizer if desired.
