gether to form a perfect square? I
have given all the measurements in
inches so that there should be no
doubt as to the correct proportions
of the letter. In this case you are not
allowed to turn over any piece.
After you have solved the problem,
see if you can reduce the number of
pieces to four, with the added free-

into five pieces that will fit together

This six-pointed star can be cut
into as few as five pieces that will fit
together and form a perfect square.
To perform the feat in seven pieces is
quite easy, but to do it in five is more
difficult. I introduce the dotted lines
merely to show the true proportions
of the star, which is thus built up of
twelve equilateral triangles.
