carefully withdraw number 4 downwards and replace it above against num-
bers 2 and 3. Then they will be in the position shown in the third diagram,
and the fifth penny may be added so that it will exactly touch all four.
A glance at the last diagram will show how difficult it is to judge by the eye
alone the correct distance from number I to number 3. One is almost certain
to place them too near together.
