all, forty-eight different ways in which the four counters may be placed on
the board, so that every square shall be in line with at least one counter.
HIt may interest the reader to know that on a chessboard, 8 X 8, five counters
may be placed in line under precisely the same conditions in four fundamental
different ways, producing twenty different solutions in all. The arrangements
