“I have an idea!” Muncho screamed, a little unhinged. “You and
Ollie should start a YouTube channel!”
“Muncho, have you been at the beetroot juice again? What am I
supposed to do on YouTube? Makeup tutorials? I’m good, but I’m not
that good.”
“Hear me out, Josh!” he cried. “Remember all those funny videos
you and Ollie filmed while in school? The totally brilliant ones that
everyone loved? Why not make videos about Korea and introduce it to
your friends in London? With your language skills, Ollie’s extraordinary
editing prowess, the your bromantic love of a thousand best
friendships, I bet you could get tens of followers!”
Muncho was right. It was a brilliant idea. I called Ollie later in the day
when I got a bit of precious time and told him about it. Whilst the idea
was exciting, the prospect of starting a YouTube channel was also a
little frightening. What if it was a disaster, and people found it boring?
We had shared our videos before but only amongst our friends, who
were always completely positive about them. Creating a video and
posting it on the internet so tens of people could watch it took guts.
But even at this early stage we instinctively knew there was a certain
safety in our partnership. We knew we made a great team, so in the
face of it all we were daunted, but excited. Dauxcited.
