HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A BABY SQUIRREL?
We started our YouTube channel at a point in our lives where we felt a
little stifled. It seemed like we had a volcano of creativity in our hearts
ready to erupt, or a twinkling star of inspiration about to supernova out
of our brains. It was intense, giving creative-birth to our futures. But,
once we’d started, it felt like we had wind in our sails and tea in our
teapots. It was exhilarating but also hard work and the invitation to K-
Con was a welcome break from our new routine. We spent the next
few weeks preparing for the trip to LA. Ollie dyed his eyebrows blue
for the occasion and then changed his mind, what a fiasco. That took
up a whole week’s emotional energy. I enrolled in an emergency
performers class. I thought it was a class for people who had been
told they would be interviewing celebrities at short notice and I wanted
to get a little confidence boost, but it turned out to be class for people
who wanted to act as characters in the emergency services on TV
shows. Muncho thought I should just leave, but in the end it was quite
a moving experience. I spent five days pretending to be a firefighter
and afterwards I really felt like I could connect with my father about it
all. Now we had a wealth of common experience, mine emotionally
real, his really real. Muncho prepared by working on a vegetable version
of ‘Anna Karenina’ but he was too stressed out and ended up putting
his ‘And-a-cucumber’ straight in the bin. Legumasaurus Rex was no
use to anyone as he was desperately missing his chickpea chinchilla
girlfriend Squilla. To make matters worse, while we were packing for
the trip, Rex read that hummus comes from chickpeas, and had to lie
down. The final thing Ollie and I did to prepare was to learn the BTS
dance moves, in case we were asked to join in. If I’m being honest
(which I always am because of my strict code of integrity) I have to
say, Ollie is the most incredible dancer in the entire world. His moves
are majestic. Wow. That’s all I can say.
