T MAY SEEM TO BE A DEPARTURE FROM THE
subject of this lesson to start with a discussion
of love, but after you have completed the lesson you will understand
that the subject could not have been omitted without impairing the
value of the lesson.
The word love is used here in an all-encompassing sense. There are
many objects, motives, and people that can inspire love, and one of
these inspirations can be work. Great artists, for example, generally love
their work.
But it is not uncommon for many people to speak of hating work,
and it is easy to envision work that is dull, tiring, and emotionally
unsatisfying. Work that you do merely for the sake of earning a living
