Post It, Pardner! Handout

Suppose your group wants to generate ways to improve a bed. Group members place
Post-it®Notes on the following objects and write the following associations for each:

  • Door: wood, grain, alcohol

  • Window: glass, clear, seeing

  • Table: flat, smooth, slippery

  • Coffeepot: hot, cold, icy

  • Lamp: light, dark, black

The group then generates ideas using these associations:

  • A built-in cereal dispenser (from “grain”)

  • An alcoholic beverage dispenser (from “alcohol”)

  • A bed with a children’s slide on the bottom (from “slippery”)

  • A built-in heating and cooling apparatus (from “hot” and “cold”)

  • A built-in ice machine (from “icy”)

  • Variable lighting brightness and focus (from “light” and “dark”)
