Eighteen
So today’s my birthday. I'm finally legal. I plannedto celebrate with my
family, but we’re all discombobulated right now. Ihaven’t even been home since I
left the hospital. I head to the library to say helloto Ms.Kayla. I try to open the
door. It was locked. I turn around and head back tomy car. But when i get to the
car Ms.Kayla yells out, “Tanalya. Sorry, come in,I was cleaning up.” I head back
to the door and ask how she’s been doing. But I endedup getting a surprise.
“Surprise!” everyone says. “Omg i was not expectingall of this. Thank youuu!” I
say, as I hug Mom. “Sorry about yesterday. And sorryabout Dad and Nel.” I
apologize, feeling guilty. “It's okay sweetie, buttoday is your day. Just have fun.”
Mom says and reassures me. I see a photo booth, abuffet of food, a cake which
looks like it's made in the shape of a book, and atable labeled: presents. Key,
Mom, Lylot, Vail, and Ms.Kayla are here with me. Technicallyonly 4 of us
because only I can see Vail and Lylot. Someone knockson the door. I turn
towards the door. I see that it's C-dog. I ran upto him and hugged him tight.
“Happy birthday.” we say to each other smiling. Wespent all of our birthdays
together, when we were 6 and under. We are twins.We celebrate by taking many
photos, eating, and then having fun with my new present.I got a siberian husky,
I've always wanted one of them. Key told Mom to getit for me. Someone finally
paid attention to me this year. Key, of course, stillgave me a tiara hoping I'd wear
it. I spare her sadness this year and I promise towear it till the end of the party.
C-dog pulls me aside and says he has something totell me. I hear him out. “I
have something different about me. I've never toldanyone but youre my sister
and I hoped you'd understand.” He stops waiting onmy response. I nodded my
