Yoga Girl

ere is a twist to all of this, of course. For every fear you move past,
there is a bigger one lurking around the corner. I went from being nervous
about teaching small, local classes on the island where I lived to being
nervous about teaching big classes across the globe. As a new teacher in
Aruba, I watched the size of my classes grow, and even though I got more
and more confident, my stomach would still churn if I walked into the
studio and there were twenty-five people instead of the anticipated ten.
After a while I was teaching so many classes in a week it became my new
normal to move through a new fear every day. Classes grew and I
overcame my fear of teaching big groups. Well-known teachers came to
the island, which made me nervous, of course. What if I’m not good enough
to teach a teacher? I came back to that simple philosophy of mine, did my
absolute best, and overcame that fear, too. We are all teachers and
students, and whatever judgment we put on others is usually directed at
ourselves.
