Where are you right now? Focus on what’s happening inside yourself
right at this moment. Your life is where you are. Notice your surroundings.
Say you’re sitting in your office chair. Notice the sounds you hear, the
sensations, the smells. Focus on the flow of your breath. Feel your feet on
the ground, the chair beneath you, the clothes on your skin, the beating of
your heart.
Right now, in this moment, reading these words, you are okay.
You. Are. Okay. Everything is fine.
It’s not until we listen to the fearful thoughts that pass through our
minds that we lose the feeling of being cared for. e mind will always tell
you something could be better. e mind will focus on all of the worst-
case scenarios, thinking this will protect you. But when we don’t control
what goes on inside of our heads, what we need protection from is the
mind. Meditate and keep meditating until you have fully embraced this
most important truth: No matter where you are in life, you will always be
okay.
And I’m not just talking about the moments where things are going
smoothly, when you’re on a high and things are going your way. I’m
talking about when they’re not. ere will be times in your life when you
will come to doubt all of these things. Death, disease, divorce, separation,
pain—all of these things are inevitable. At some point, whether you like it
or not, you will experience most, if not all of them. And I’m not telling you
to pretend bad things don’t happen, because they do. And they always
will. e only thing we know for sure is that things will always change.
Nothing is permanent. And when we find ourselves in the middle of
trauma, in the middle of crisis, even when you’ve hit rock bottom and you
have no idea how on earth you’ll ever find the courage to climb back up,
you are still okay. You are okay.
Look around you in that moment, too. What’s going on right at that
minute? You can still feel your heart beating inside of your chest.
Fundamentally, nothing has changed except the story you’re telling
yourself. Our feelings change like the wind, and when we tell ourselves a
