  • You could usefully work on your synoptic material by producing a flow
    chart of the hierarchy of the civil courts along with an explanation of the
    appeal route.

  • Make a presentation on consumer rights for a group of non-lawyers,
    including a chart illustrating the terms implied by sections 12–15 of Sale
    of Goods Act 1979 and Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994 (Chapter 16).

  • Reading an extended document is not a problem – choose any legal
    article or case report. The following would be particularly useful and
    interesting: Thornton v Shoe Lane Parking Ltd, Esso v Commissioners of
    Customs and Excise (Chapter 2).

  • In addition there are articles in the Times Law Supplements and other
    leading newspapers. Other possibilities include reports of the Law
    Commission and articles in the New Law Journal or on the internet (see
    sites in the resources section at the end of the book). Here you may well
    find a graph or illustration included in a document.


C3.3: write two different types of documents about complex
subjects.One piece of writing should be an extended document and
include atleast one image



  • Write a full essay on a subject of interest to you, e.g. misrepresentation
    when selling goods (Chapter 11), the capacity of minors (Chapter 5),
    rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (Chapter 16), methods of
    communicating acceptance (Chapter 2). You could include a detailed
    account of some leading cases, and illustrate some of them using
    diagrams, e.g. acceptance by post (draw a map to show why the post was
    a reasonable method in Henthorn v Fraser).

  • Draft advice to a client based on a scenario from a part of the syllabus,
    e.g. a claim in misrepresentation, using a diagram to show possible
    remedies, or a claim by a third party in privity, using a diagram to
    illustrate the relationship between the parties.
