- WO3.1: plan a group activity, agreeing objectives, responsibilities and
working arrangements. - WO3.2: work towards achieving the agreed objectives seeking to
establish and maintain co-operative working relationships in meeting
individual responsibilities. - WO3.3: review the activity with others against the agreed objectives and
agree ways of enhancing collaborative work.
Suggested activities
The organisation of a moot based on a given scenario (many of the problem
questions at the ends of chapters are suitable for this). The stages could be:
- Meet as a group and organise the breakdown of tasks, e.g. there will need
to be agreement on pairs or small groups researching different legal
aspects of the problem, including obtaining case details and references to
be cited, and preparing speeches for presentation. Appoint a leader to co-
ordinate the exchange of information and to coordinate communication.
Establish a communication route – use e-mail if practical. Agree on
deadlines, and on the method of recording the information. - Carry out the research in agreed groups. Co-operate with members of
the group in sharing information and the burden of recording, so that
deadlines are met. Monitor problems with working relationships, to
ensure that goals are achieved. Review progress and goals, changing
plans by agreement if necessary. - Hold the moot, inviting others to attend. You could ask a teacher or a
fellow student to preside. - Arrange a post-moot discussion group to give feedback. Encourage this
to include positive criticism, with suggestions for improvement.
Make a presentation on a given topic of general interest from the syllabus,
e.g. minors’ contracts. This could be for presentation to the year group.
- Meet as a group and organise the distribution of tasks, e.g. there will need
to be agreement on pairs or small groups researching different legal
aspects of the problem, including obtaining case details and references to
be cited, and preparing material for presentation, e.g. text of oral
presentation, OHP (overhead projector) text, OHP illustrations
(alternatively prepare text and illustrations for a Powerpoint presentation,
if facilities for this are available on the computer network). Appoint a
leader to co-ordinate the exchange of information and to co-ordinate
communication. Establish a communication route – use e-mail if practical.
