Diagnosis.HepatitisBisdiagnosedbyidentifyingthevariousHBVantigens
ortheantibodiesdirectedagainstthem.Bothantigensandantibodiescanbe
detectedinpatientbloodusingasolidphasetest(enzymeimmunoassay).
Theindividualcomponentsmanifestinspecificpatterns.Fig.8. 11 shows
thesequenceofphasesinanuncomplicatedhepatitisBinfection,uponwhich
theguidingprinciplesinlaboratorydiagnosisofHBVinfectionsarebased
(Table8. 1 ).
ThehepatitisDvirusisdiagnosedbydetectionofdeltaantigenorpossibly
antibodiestodelta(IgM)intheblood.
