&Lesions,mainlyonthesolesofthefeetandbetweenthetoes,morerarely

onotherpartsofthebody.

&Formationofreddened,pea-sized,painfulnoduleswithacraterlikecen-

traldepression.Inflammatoryandsometimespurulentinfiltrationofthe

lesion.

Diagnosis,therapy,andprevention.Thediagnosisisbasedonthecharac-

teristicskinlesionsandcanbeconfirmedbyparasitologicalorhistological

examinationofthematerialremovedfromthesores.Treatmentconsists

ofmechanicalremovalofthefemalefleaunderlocalanesthesiaandcontrol

ofthesecondaryinfection.Topicalapplicationofivermectinisalsoeffective.

Preventiondemandsthatshoesthatfitandcloseproperlybeworn.
