castle’sbanquethall,withasoaringceilingtwenty-fivefeet

high.Twolargewoodentableswithplainbenchesstandinthe

middleoftheroom,andabrassbrazierfullofglowingcoalsis

tuckedintoonecorner.Dirtydishes,half-fullstewpots,moldy

heelsofbread,andgnawedbonescoverthetables.

below.Tothenorth,heavycurtainsblockamatchingpairof

archways.Betweenthearchwaysisacrackedbutornately

carvedstonebrazier.

ledgehiddenintheshadowsofthestatuaryinthehigher

reachesoftheroom.Itquietlyobservesintrudersthat
