Vulnerabilities,Resistances,

andImmunities


Somecreatureshavevulnerability,resistance,or
immunitytocertaintypesofdamage.Additionally,some
creaturesareimmunetocertainconditionsandother
gameeffects.Theseimmunitiesarealsonotedhere.

Senses
TheSensesentrynotesacreature’spassiveWisdom
(Perception)score,aswellasanyspecialsensesthe
creaturemighthave,suchasthefollowingsenses.
Blindsight.Acreaturewithblindsightcanperceiveits
surroundingswithouthavingtorelyonsight,withina
specificradius.
Darkvision.Acreaturewithdarkvisioncanseeinthe
darkwithinaspecificradius.Thecreaturecanseeindim
lightwithintheradiusasifitwerebrightlight,andin
darknessasifitweredimlight.Thecreaturecan’tdiscern
colorindarkness,onlyshadesofgray.
Truesight.Acreaturewithtruesightcanseeinnormal
andmagicaldarkness,seeinvisiblecreaturesandobjects,
automaticallydetectvisualillusionsandsucceedonsaving
throwsagainstthem,andperceivetheoriginalformofa
shapechangeroracreaturethatistransformedbymagic.
Furthermore,thecreaturecanseeintotheEtherealPlane.

Actions


Whenacreaturetakesitsaction,itcanchoosefrom
theoptionsinthe“Actions”sectionofitsstatblock.The
rulebookdescribesotheractionsavailabletoallcreatures.

MeleeandRangedAttacks
Themostcommonactionsthatacreaturewilltakein
combataremeleeandrangedattacks.Thesecanbespell
attacksorweaponattacks,wherethe“weapon”mightbea
manufactureditemoranaturalweapon,suchasaclaw.
Hit.Anydamageorothereffectsthatoccurasaresultof
anattackhittingatargetaredescribedhere.AstheDM,
youhavetheoptionoftakingaveragedamageorrolling
thedamage;forthisreason,boththeaveragedamageand
thedieexpressionarepresented.Forexample,amonster
mightdeal 4 (ld8)slashingdamagewithitslongsword.
Thatnotationmeansyoucanhavethemonsterdeal^4
damageoryoucanrollld8todeterminethedamage.

Ifacreaturecandosomethingunusualwithitsreaction,
thatinformationiscontainedhere.Mostcreaturesdo
nothavespecialreactions,inwhichcasethissectionis

LimitedUsage


Somespecialabilities—whethertheyaretraits,actions,
orreactions—haverestrictionsonthenumberoftimes
theycanbeused.
X/Day.Thenotation“X/Day”meansaspecialability
canbeusedacertainnumberoftimesandthatamonster
mustfinishalongresttoregainexpendeduses.For
example,“1/Day”meansaspecialabilitycanbeusedonce
andthatthemonstermustfinishalongresttouseitagain.
RechargeX-Y.Thenotation“RechargeX-Y”meansa
monstercanuseaspecialabilityonceandthattheability
thenhasarandomchanceofrechargingduringeach
subsequentroundofcombat.Atthestartofeachofthe
monster’sturns,rollad6.Iftherollisoneofthenumbers
intherechargenotation,themonsterregainstheuseof
thespecialability.Theabilityalsorechargeswhenthe
monsterfinishesashortorlongrest.
