pain-body and believe that this mind-made fiction is who

will createstrongresistancetoanydisidentification.Inother
words, you wouldrather be in pain— be the pain-body —
thantakealeapintotheunknownandrisklosingthefamiliar
unhappyself.
If this applies to you, observe the resistance within
yourself.Observetheattachmenttoyourpain.Beveryalert.
Observe the peculiar pleasure you derive from being
unhappy. Observe the compulsion to talk or think about it.
Theresistancewillceaseifyoumakeitconscious.Youcan
then take your attention into the pain-body, stay present as
thewitness,andsoinitiateitstransmutation.
Onlyyoucandothis.Nobodycandoit foryou. But if
you are fortunate enough to find someone who is intensely
conscious,ifyoucanbewiththemandjointheminthestate
ofpresence,thatcanbehelpfulandwillacceleratethings.In
thisway,yourownlightwillquicklygrowstronger.Whena
logthathasonlyjuststartedtoburnisplacednexttoonethat
isburningfiercely,andafterawhiletheyareseparatedagain,
the first log will be burning with much greater intensity.
After all, it isthe same fire. To be such afire is one of the
functions ofaspiritualteacher. Sometherapistsmayalsobe
able to fulfill that function, provided that they have gone
beyondthelevelofmindandcancreateandsustainastateof
intenseconsciouspresencewhiletheyareworkingwithyou.
