None other than the power of your presence, your
consciousnessliberatedfromthoughtforms.
So deal with the past on the level of the present. The
moreattentionyougivetothepast,themoreyouenergizeit,
andthemorelikelyyouaretomakea"self"outofit.Don’t
misunderstand: Attention is essential, but not to the past as
past. Give attention to the present; give attention to your
behavior,toyourreactions,moods,thoughts,emotions,fears,
anddesiresas they occur inthepresent.There'sthepast in
you.If youcan bepresentenoughtowatchall thosethings,
not critically or analytically but nonjudgmentally, then you
aredealingwiththepastanddissolvingitthroughthepower
ofyourpresence.Youcannotfindyourselfbygoingintothe
past.Youfindyourselfbycomingintothepresent.


Isn'tit helpfultounderstandthepastandsounderstandwhy
we do certain things, react in certain ways, or why we
unconsciouslycreateourparticularkindof drama,patterns
inrelationships,andsoon?


As you become more conscious ofyour present reality, you
may suddenly get certain insights as to why your
conditioningfunctionsinthoseparticularways;forexample,
whyyour relationshipsfollowcertainpatterns,andyoumay
remember thingsthathappenedinthepast orseethemmore
dearly.That isfineandcanbehelpful,butitisnotessential.
What is essentialisyour consciouspresence. Thatdissolves
the past. That is the transformative agent. So don't seek to
understand thepast, but be as present as you can. The past
cannot surviveinyour presence.It can onlysurvive inyour
absence.
