real-life gangster Meyer Lansky – after the late
1990s film Lansky, in which Richard Dreyfuss
plays the eponymous character. - Keitel previously portrayed another real-
life gangster, Mickey Cohen, in the 1991 film
Bugsy. - Lansky also appeared as a character
in Bugsy, on this occasion played by Ben
Kingsley. - Keitel was confirmed as the lead of the
new Lansky film in May 2019. - In a two-star review published by
RogerEbert.com, critic Glenn Kenny opined
that the new Lansky biopic “is for Keitel
completists only”.
