U Over the moon


JUNO, 7 JUNE 2021
'DXEHGLQGDUNDQGOLJKWFULVVFURVVHGZLWKOLQHVDQGVSDWWHUHG
with craters, Jupiter’s icy moon Ganymede is captured here with
incredible clarity. Flying within 1,038km of the surface, Juno’s was
the closest approach to the largest moon in our Solar System since
the Galileo orbiter in 1997. To the left of centre you can see the
YHUWLFDOOLQHRI(QNL&DWHQDDNPORQJFKDLQRIFUDWHUVIRUPHG
when an incoming comet broke apart and struck the moon’s
surface. This photo was processed by citizen scientist Kevin McGill.
