CONTRIBUTORS & CONTACTS

Alex Roddie
Regular contributor Alex Roddie has
been easing himself back into
long-distance walking in the Peak
District with a 110km (68 mile)
circuit of the White and Dark Peak in
excellent summer weather. Later in
the summer a return to Scotland is
planned – for some hillwalking as
well as a book launch (his Cape
Wrath Trail book, The Farthest
Shore, comes out in September). He’s
also been writing a new coffee-table
book on trekking in the Alps. In this
issue he puts a range of GPS watches
to the test (p80), profiles Tryfan (p16)
and takes us through map-reading
basics (p66).

Jessie Leong
This month has seen outdoor
photographer, filmmaker and writer
Jessie Leong roaming the fells of the
Lake District in glorious midsummer
weather to shoot photography for a
TGO feature for the first time with a
gathering of friends: James Forrest,
Harrison Ward and Sarah Wilson.
Check out the results on p34 and
gracing the cover. On p58, she also
makes another big contribution with
her feature on hiking up to the
north-western tip of Iceland along
the remote and spectacular
Hornstrandir peninsula.

Peter Elia
Peter Elia is a freelance journalist
and photographer who travels the
globe searching for stories from the
paths less travelled. He combines his
adventures on foot with dramatic
landscape images which have
featured in The Guardian, BBC
Countryfile, The Independent and
elsewhere. Since lockdown, Peter has
focused his work on discovering the
UK’s (less-crowded) best hikes, while
his Instagram account ‘The Man Who
Hiked The World’ continues to grow
with over 80,000 followers. Check
out his feature centred around a
spectacular horseback hike in
Kyrgyzstan on p50.

Peter Macfarlane
Peter has been a freelance outdoor
writer and photographer for 15
years or so after a lifetime in the
Scottish hills saw him start blogging,
which then brought the opportunity
to move into other media. His home
hills are the Arrochar Alps which he
claims as his own as it’s historically
Clan Macfarlane land – check out his
feature from this neck of the woods
on p42. Lockdown has kept him away
from the hills for too long – he
currently has his eye on the much-
missed north west Highlands.
Adventures beckon!
